Victory Loves Preparation is here

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013

Victory Loves Preparation, Emmet Ryan’s new book and the sequel to Tactics not Passion, is here. It was a wild 12 months in Gaelic Football strategy and Emmet breaks it down from Sam to Sam.

“There’s a massive shift in Irish sport – and a welcome one – to forensic analysis of why and how things happened as opposed to a simple retelling of what happened. Emmet Ryan is undoubtedly part of that movement,” – Ger Gilroy, Off the Ball.

How did Jim Gavin solve James Horan? Can a 600 year old battle really be relevant to the past summer’s championship? What drove Ballymun Kickhams and St Brigid’s of Kiltoom to new heights? Emmet Ryan’s sequel to Tactics not Passion answers these questions with a look back at how strategy shaped a year in Gaelic Football. From junior finals to the chase for the Sam Maguire, Victory Loves Preparation examines the evolution of tactics in the modern game.

And now to the important business of how you buy it…

Launch Party

The book is available to buy now but there’s a formal launch on Thursday 28 November in Kilmacud Crokes GAA club. Full details are here.  Guests and MC have yet to be confirmed but they’ll be good. Well they were last year and I haven’t offended too many folk in the interim.

Meet me

This was tremendous craic last year and you better believe I’m doing it again. If you are in Dublin and can meet in the city centre drop an email to (replacing AT with @) and I’ll meet you.

Order it

The book can be ordered direct from Original Writing here.

Still working on it but yes the book will be available on Kindle, iBooks, and all the usual platforms. I’ll post updates when that happens.

Eh what about bookshops?

As I’ve gone down the self-publishing route, in order to fit the tight schedule of finishing after the All-Ireland Final and releasing in early November, book shops order it at their own discretion. Now at this point I’d say some sanitised version of tough cookies but to hell with that. You want it in your local bookshop? Ask them why they aren’t stocking a book you want to buy. Most will order it in, especially when put to them in such a clear and polite manner.

I’ll post regular updates on Twitter regarding book shops which are stocking Victory Loves Preparation to keep all of you in the loop.
